- This image, a photographed segment of a 17” x 19” commercial print of Andrew Wyeth’s Young America, depicts not the front of the print, but rather the reverse side. Here, the acid stains of the dark inks used to delineate the prominent forms of the image (young male on a bicycle in a scout’s uniform, looking off into the horizon of a gradual sloping landscape) have seeped through to the back surface of the print. Also visible on the print are small gray specks - evidence of it having been stored in a presumably dank environment. My father came home from a yard sale with print in hand (he had wanted only the frame and mounting); offering the print to me, he added, “If you drew a beard on the kid, he would be you.”
